Purple Expressive Arts
The group began by exploring a variety of creative forms such as creative writing, acting, singing and dance. This quickly developed into their first show – an hour-long piece entitled ‘Purple!’ This show used music, dance and poetry to present a brief history of ordinary women from the 1940’s to the present day. The group performed the show for Surestart week 2006 and have since performed excerpts from it at the North City Festival, and at the Simpson Memorial Hall fundraising event.
When the Surestart funding ended the group moved into Simpson Memorial Hall and formed themselves into an independent group. They have successfully raised money from Harpurhey and Moston district forums to continue their creative work.
At Christmas the group performed their second show to pensioners at the VASA club and to an audience at Simpson Memorial. The show was an original take on the pantomime form.
Purple Expressive Arts are currently improvising and writing their own play – a long-term project which will culminate in the play’s premier performance at Simpson Memorial. Look out for details later in the year.
Purple Expressive Arts are actively seeking new members from the Harpurhey, Moston and Blackley areas. You don’t have to have any experience or skill – just enthusiasm, a willingness to take risks and, above all, the desire to have a laugh.
You don’t need to do anything you don’t want to do. Even if you just come to brew up for everyone – that’s fine by us.
