South Central Community Project
All FM 96.9 is the licensed community radio Station for South Central and East Manchester.
All FM has been broadcasting to Ardwick, longsight and Levenshulme for the past four years under the Government’s ‘Community radio pilot scheme’.
All FM applied for a broadcasting license to serve a wider area, due to lack of frequencies available to community broadcasters. Through ALL FM holding the license to broadcast to the whole South Central and East Manchester areas, a larger number of residents and participants can be engaged and there will be community radio provision for the widest possible number of people.
All FM has proved to be extremely popular with members of the local community and during the 4 years of its work, ALL FM has engaged over 190 volunteers and has supported 156 community and voluntary groups.
Karen Depasois has recently been appointed as the community engagement officer for South Central Manchester. This new post will involve the recruitment and training of individuals, community groups and voluntary sector groups so that they can create programs of high relevance to the community of South Central Manchester.
Radio training and support will be available to help participants become journalists and broadcasters, training will include radio production, research, interviewing skills, presenter skills, radio desk driving, recording and editing, all of which are very useful transferable skills for unemployed individuals when seeking work
Karen has been involved in community radio for over 6 years. Karen’s overall vision is that the South Central radio project will help to empower members of the community both young and old using radio as a tool to assist in creating a platform for local people to express themselves creatively, to celebrate the positive elements and to challenge and debate community issues with service providers, for positive change.
If you're interested and would like to know more about radio training and the possibility of being involved in weekly broadcasts, contact: Karen Depasois, Telephone: 0161 248 6888 Email: Karen@allfm.org
Karen is now based at Zion Centre in Hulme.
