Moorway Courts Tenants Association
We are Moorway Courts Tenants Association, a Tenants Association in a high rise block in Charlestown, North Manchester, and we work very closely with our elderly tenants to reduce their isolation by offering a number of activities.
At the moment we do a luncheon and breakfast club twice a week where we prepare low cost meals for our tenants. We are able to fund this at present by holding raffles and passing round football cards and we regularly play bingo together.
We are working with a development worker from the Novas Scarman Group Manchester and with their help we hope to make our community room bigger and open most days for a range of different activities.
The Novas Scarman Group Manchester have also helped us to secure grants from various charities that work with the elderly and for the community. With these we have taken our tenants on days out and held tea and bingo days and parties. We have recently been given a grant for a TV and DVD so now we can invite our tenants to come and watch a film, have a cuppa and just enjoy a bit of company. We have also received a grant from Help the Aged for a bingo machine so we can hold more bingo sessions.
As a group we feel very strongly that no-one should feel isolated or lonely because of their age, and as we live in a high rise block this is often the case so we encourage all our tenants to join in with our activities in the hope that we can make a difference to our community.
