Withington and District Garden Society
In 1935 the Society moved to its present site on Kingslea Road as a larger area was needed to cater for the larger numbers joining the Society. This proved to be a good move and by the 1950's membership was over eight hundred. During the 1960’s many changes started taking place – other garden centres and nurseries started opening and membership began to decrease. By 1979 only one annual flower show was held by the society, instead of three.
In 1982 women were first allowed to become members of the society, with records showing a substantial increase of women members in 1986.
In October 1998 the old hut was demolished and the site cleared and on 10th January 1999 the Society had their grand opening of the new concrete hut and shed and it was re-named Withington and District Garden Society.
The Society has had its ups and downs over the last few years but we manage to continue through the dedication and hard work of the present members - let’s hope we can keep going for many years to come.
At present, the Society’s opening hours are Sunday 11 to 12.30 and Tuesdays 11 to 12.
If we can increase membership and recruit volunteers to help we could open for longer hours.
As a Society our hope is to keep the flag flying and next year celebrate 80 years of gardening.

Who are the Residents of Naseby Avenue? We are normal residents, from different backgrounds and of varying ages. We officially formed in 2002 to enable us to apply for various funding as a recognised Residents Association.

All FM 96.9 is the licensed community radio Station for South Central and East Manchester. All FM has been broadcasting to Ardwick, longsight and Levenshulme for the past four years under the Government’s ‘Community radio pilot scheme’.
