St. Agnes’ Community Centre
For nearly 25 years the Community Hall at St Agnes Church on Slade Lane in Longsight has been providing meeting and hall space for local residents and groups. Although the centre is basically just a single hall with kitchen facilities its versatility lends it to use by groups of any size and for virtually any function. One of the distinctive features about the Centre is its community base; although it is part of the church building the Centre is managed and organised by the community.Recently we have been able to update most of the kitchen equipment thanks to grant money applied for by one of our user-groups with the help of the Scarman Trust. We are most grateful for this money which provided a cooker, microwave, grills and toasters alongside a whole range of kitchen utensils.
The Centre is surrounded by the church garden which is also designated as Community Space and through strong links with the local residents association (HRACA) a Community Garden is being created and cared for.
The user groups reflect the diversity of Longsight and we are proud of our connections with the various ethnic and religious communities which surround the Centre. Currently groups include:
- Evergreens: over 50’s social group,
- Drop-in: a support and social space for those living with mental health issues,
- a daily after school club for children,
- Easter & summer holiday clubs for local kids,
- the Longsight Jamaican Community Centre,
- karate & belly dancing classes (separately, not together!).
It is also used by local residents for Birthday parties, Eid celebrations and the Chinese New Year, not forgetting its regular use by St Agnes’ church.

Residents of Naseby Avenue
Who are the Residents of Naseby Avenue? We are normal residents, from different backgrounds and of varying ages. We officially formed in 2002 to enable us to apply for various funding as a recognised Residents Association.

Purple Expressive Arts grew out of a Presentation Skills training day that Surestart put on for a group of their volunteers at the North City Family and Fitness Centre. The day left them wanting more and Surestart funded a series of regular weekly session

Friends of Gorton Park

All FM 96.9 is the licensed community radio Station for South Central and East Manchester. All FM has been broadcasting to Ardwick, longsight and Levenshulme for the past four years under the Government’s ‘Community radio pilot scheme’.
