Longsight and Ardwick Supplementary School (LASS)
We are working with the families as a whole by involving parents where we can alonside the children, and building on from the prior experience of individual members who have initiated and delivered supplemantary educational opportunities before.
We intend to develop opportunities for children to learn about:
- Their cultural backgrounds and traditions at the same time as they learn about the diversity of British cultures.
- How to increase their concentration skills and help each other to complete their homeworks and undertake additional study in subjects where they need extra help.
- How to organise activities for themselves and each other that can stimulate them, be useful in their own right, and offer alternatives to hanging about on the streets.
Women, many of whom will be th eparents of the children using this supplementary education:
- To identify their skills, abilities and aspirations.
- To identify how they can connect up with local opportunities in order to introduce activities that could lead to accreditation, employment and small enterprise development at the same time as offering real space in real time (Temple et al, 2005) opportunities for these women to form relationships with their local neighbours.
An integrated evaluation that, from the outset, involves the people who are using and developing initiatives within the building, by inviting them to:
- Identify those indicators that could be described and measured over time and that would demonstrste how far these interventions were working.
- Define the outputs that they believe should derive from the interventions.
- Nominate people from each Sector of activity in the building to participate in teh evaluation as community researchers.

Who are the Residents of Naseby Avenue? We are normal residents, from different backgrounds and of varying ages. We officially formed in 2002 to enable us to apply for various funding as a recognised Residents Association.
