Old Moat Awards
Congratulations to Sharon Smirk and the young people who attend the Old Moat Youth Outreach Project (OMYOP). Sharon has been judged the Old Moat Adult Good Neighbour and the OMYOP young people have been awarded both the group and the young Good Neighbour awards.
Sharon is involved with so many groups of people in the ward it’s difficult to keep count, but she is:
• Secretary of the Old Moat Residents’ Association
• A founder member of The Old Moat and Withington forum
• Volunteer at the Moativate Project for young people
• A scout leader
• A member of the steering group for the housing stock options for south Manchester
• A member of the South Manchester Community Network
• A parent and governor at Old Moat Primary School
• Chair of the Friends of Old Moat Park
The young people of OMYOP impressed the panel through their hard work in supporting the 1000 Days campaign 2005 and their determination to succeed in producing a piece of community art for the ward. Their sensitive selection of the Beslan tragedy in Russia and the imaginative way they are approaching making the sculpture show how much good our young people can do.

Friends of Gorton Park

All FM 96.9 is the licensed community radio Station for South Central and East Manchester. All FM has been broadcasting to Ardwick, longsight and Levenshulme for the past four years under the Government’s ‘Community radio pilot scheme’.
Gorton Festival Revives Spirit

Withington and District Garden Society
Withington and District Garden Society was founded in 1929 as The Ladybarn Estates Garden Society to help with gardening on the new council housing estates being built in Withington.
